23/08/2011 – Day 6
Hebelhof to Todtnau again
It is beginning to feel like Groundhog Day already. Me waking up knowing I have to wait until 10am before anything will happen.
Dead on 10 I am on the phone. This time I get some snooty person who just has no interest in my problem. All she can do is tell me I have to wait up to 28 days and the maximum they will pay is £1100, quoting the Montreal Convention. No effort to help, no suggestions as to how I can get back on the road. Total arrogance! Total Easyjet!
Having raged for a few minutes to myself, and read up on the Montreal Convention (the £1100 limit is for LOST luggage not damaged, Easyjet wrong again!) I call back. I had looked up the price of a new set of forks on the Specialized website and found out that in the USA they will cost about $1450 I call back.
This time I get someone who is willing to help. Once again a supervisor is involved and they agree to me getting a taxi to the dealer and trying to resolve this. I tell them that the replacements will cost about 800€ to buy and replace and they agree. This time I recorded it on tape.
Phoning the dealer in Mulheim, I speak to Thomas who yet again speaks English I arrange to be there Wednesday morning so they can look at the bike. Now I just have to get my bike back from Todtnau.
A quick bus ride down the hill again with my free pass from the hostel and I have my bike, only the bus will not take it during the busy period. So a taxi back again.
Back to the pizzeria for more beer!
